Behind the Rollers – Alba’s Blade Lift Unit

Alba Manufacturing Newsletter

At Alba Manufacturing, we engineer more than conveyors—we deliver value-added solutions that solve real-world challenges in pallet handling. One such solution is our Blade Lift Unit, designed for applications where a full pallet must be raised above the conveying surface. This is especially important during stretch wrapping operations where wrapping low on the pallet creates a more stable, unitized load. Blade lifts are also ideal for load stacking and banding scenarios.

To fully appreciate the strength and engineering of Alba’s Blade Lift, let’s take a closer look behind the rollers.

Blade Weldment

At the core of the Blade Lift is the blade weldment—a robust structural steel assembly equipped with vertical steel plates. These plates extend through the conveyor rollers, lifting the pallet approximately three inches above the roller surface. This elevation allows the bottom edge of the pallet to clear the scalloped roller guard, making it easier to apply wrapping or other packaging treatments to the entire load.

Cylinder Options

The lifting force comes from a pneumatic cylinder mounted to the base of the Blade Lift. Its rod end is connected to a clevis on the pivot arms, enabling swift, reliable vertical motion. Capable of lifting up to 3,000 pounds, the cylinder delivers power and speed for demanding environments. For freezer applications or facilities without access to clean, dry air, a hydraulic version with a remote power unit is also available.

Heavy-Duty Pivot Arms

The pivot arms are engineered to convert the cylinder’s horizontal movement into a smooth vertical lift. Built as rugged steel weldments, these arms shoulder a significant portion of the load during actuation. Attached between the cylinder and tie-rod, the arms help guide the blade weldment in a stable, even motion—ensuring reliable operation with each cycle.
