As Easter approaches each year, the demand for delectable chocolates reaches its peak, placing immense pressure on chocolatiers and their logistical partners to ensure timely production and delivery. Alba Manufacturing, renowned for its innovative conveyor solutions, recently collaborated with a prominent chocolatier to address a critical challenge in their warehouse: the efficient transition of pallets from low to high elevations in preparation for Easter festivities.

The chocolatier’s warehouse faced a complex issue: transitioning pallets from a gravity roller conveyor at a low elevation to a powered conveyor at a higher level, all while accommodating ergonomic considerations and spatial constraints. This challenge was compounded by the need to feed the pallets into a stretch wrapper located off-center from the packing lines.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Alba Manufacturing moved to solve the problem, deploying its expertise in conveyor systems to devise a tailored solution.

Challenge

The primary challenge stemmed from the disparity in elevation between the gravity roller conveyor, which needed to maintain a low profile of no more than 10 inches for ergonomic reasons, and the powered conveyor, requiring a more traditional height of 18 inches. Additionally, the off-center location of the stretch wrapper posed a logistical hurdle.

Solution

Alba Manufacturing’s solution centered around integrating a low-profile ZLS style Southworth lift table with a CDLR conveyor, Alba effectively bridged the elevation gap. The lift table’s scissor leg mechanism was positioned outside the platform, optimizing space, and allowing for a minimal top of roller elevation. This innovative design allowed pallets to be efficiently raised from as low as 7 inches to a height of up to 42 inches, aligning perfectly with the requirements of the powered conveyor and the stretch wrapper.
